Help Us Secure the State Grant!
In October of 2023, Representative William Penterman and his team came to Watertown for a tour of The Collective and the current Watertown Area YMCA. During their visit they interviewed and filmed a number of Y members and staff in order to fully understand how a new YMCA facility can further provide for the ever-growing community. The highlights were captured in a compelling video (below)
In the November following, we applied for a $4.5 million grant from the state for the construction of our new full facility YMCA at The Collective. Since we’ve submitted this grant request, we have been working hard to connect with elected officials to rally around the proposal.
Earlier this year, we asked members of the community to submit letters of support to the Building Commission.
Now, we are asking for letters of support to the Department of Administration (DOA). If you feel so moved, please write and address these letters or e-mails to Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld, Deputy Secretary Paul Hammer, and Assistant Deputy Secretary Diana Maas of the Department of Administration (DOA) at [email protected].
If you have a relationship with any of the individuals listed, please reach out to them directly.
A sample of a letter or e-mail to be written is below:
“Hello, my name is ____________. I am reaching out to ask you to support the New Watertown Area YMCA project through the Department of Administration Non State Grant application. With a goal of $25 million and over $19.5 million raised, a $4.5 million grant from the state will help us complete this project. It is imperative for our community that we receive this grant and build a new YMCA in Watertown. (Please insert your personal reason describing why you feel it is important.)”
It is anticipated to have confirmation of grant approvals by the Fall of 2024. Please feel free to reach out to Taylor Walsh at [email protected] with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for your continued support to Build Community!
